I just thought I would write a quick update about what has happened since my last post. To be honest, not a lot, but there are a few things I can write about.
The main thing that has happened is my 21st birthday! I'm now a proper 'grown up' and had a really good birthday. When I got into work there was a balloon, lots of cakes and cards and presents waiting for me on my desk and in the evening I went for a meal with my family. It was a really good day, but it went too fast!
During the easter holiday I went away for a week with my mum to Weymouth and even though it was really relaxing and a whole week, it went so quickly that I didn't manage to read any of the books I meant to. We spent most of the time relaxing and chilling out in the caravan and one afternoon went to the cinema to see The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock. I'd read reviews about it, none of which seemed very positive, but I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.
I've just come back from my Reviewing Creative Writing Course and got really good comments on my homework, which was a poem on Footsteps. The subject was feet, but we could do anything to do with it as long as it was relevant to the subject. I really enjoyed writing it and my tutor said she liked the imagination and how I mentioned that we all leave them, even if they're invisible.
Lately I've been able to write poems about what I want and when I want like before, which is really useful as I'm writing them for my class. I did go through a point where I couldn't write a poem no matter how hard I tried and when I did I was forcing the rhyming, but now I seem to just be able to think of a subject and come up with something.
I've entered 3 short story competitions since I last blogged as well. I was looking on the internet for competitions, as I had written quite a few short stories for my previous writing course and after writing one for my current course I decided that I wanted to enter some. All 3 of them have cash prizes for the winners, but I don't really want the money, I'm just interested in getting my name 'out there' and also getting published in the Anthology that they create with the winning entries. I chose all 6 stories I've written and sent 3 to each and have since received 2 acknowledgment envelopes, so at least I know 2 of them have arrived safely. I won't hear if I've won any of them until about September, but I'm really hoping I might be in with a good chance with at least 3 of my stories.
At the moment I'm concentrating on writing poems, as they're my favourite thing to write and I'm hoping to send some off to competitions and magazines for publication again soon. I'm also thinking of writing another letter to my local paper in the hope it will get published, but I've just got to come up with a subject!
