Awake - review

With the premise of this movie being a young man undergoing open heart surgery I wasn’t convinced it would be particularly exciting, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Hayden Christensen is Clay Beresford a young man who needs a heart transplant. Having made friends with the surgeon who saved his life years earlier Clay wants him to carry out the operation against the wishes of his mother, but with the support of his new wife Sam (Jessica Alba).

As Clay is taken into theatre and prepped for surgery his anaesthetic fails causing him to be aware of everything going on around him, including the pain of having his chest cut open. Told through his thoughts he tries to get the attention of the surgeons, but while his mind is awake his body is paralysed so they are none the wiser.

During the operation Clay discovers a plan for him to be murdered while under the knife but with his body paralysed and no way of getting anyone’s attention, Clay must try and work out how to prevent the person he thought was his friend becoming his killer.

This thriller was much better than I originally thought and I could never have guessed the twist in the storyline and how it ended.

Definitely worth a watch.
