New
York columnist Ike Graham (Richard Gere) has hit a dry spot in finding
inspiration for his latest column until he finds himself talking to a man in a
bar about Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts), a small town girl who has a
reputation for leaving her fiancées at the altar.
Inspired
by her story Ike uses it for his column, but when Maggie reads about it she
quickly complains to the editor who subsequently fires Ike forcing him to visit
Maggie’s home town to apologise.
Once
there Ike discovers Maggie is engaged yet again and decides to spend time with
the locals in order to find out all he can about her while trying to discover
why she can never make it down the aisle.
With
everyone aware of Maggie’s failed attempts at getting married she’s become a
running joke around town, but as Ike spends time with her and gets to know her
better, he finds himself falling for Maggie’s charm despite her wedding day
being only a couple of days away.
As
Maggie admits the feeling is mutual and ends her relationship with Bob, she
begins to wonder whether Ike could be the one, but when he proposes to her,
will she finally make it down the aisle or remain the Runaway Bride?
Co-starring
Joan Cusack & Rita Wilson (Tom Hank’s wife), this was a typical rom-com
with a predictable ending, but I enjoyed it and am glad to have finally watched
it.
