The Death & Life of Charlie St Cloud - review

Charlie (Zac Efron) & his younger brother Sam are extremely close and enjoy spending time together, especially sailing their boat in competitions.

With his ambitions involving college & sailing the world, Charlie is looking forward to moving away at the end of the summer, so without their dad around he is determined to spend time with Sam before he goes, promising to meet him to play baseball for one hour every day.

After a road accident involving the brothers ends Sam’s life, Charlie is devastated and 5 years later is the live in caretaker at the local graveyard spending his days tending to graves and meeting with Sam at the same time every day to practice baseball as promised. The fact that Sam died doesn’t alter the fact that Charlie is determined to keep his promise and sure enough Sam turns up.

With his mother having moved away the only person Charlie spends time with is Sam and while he has no interest in anything else, the paramedic who brought him back to life tells him there must be a reason he was given a second chance and he should try and discover what it is.

So when Charlie discovers a girl he has been spending time with actually went missing at sea 3 days before, he realises his gift for seeing the deceased is one he should embrace and use to help find her.

For a movie made by Disney, The Death & Life of Charlie St Cloud was quite depressing seeing as it centered on death & 3 occurred, but apart from that I found it an interesting watch showing the importance of moving on following a loved one’s death.
