We bought a zoo - review

Based on a true story, We Bought a Zoo tells the story of Benjamin Mee and his children Dylan & Rosie as they struggle to come to terms with the death of their mum.

As Dylan channels his emotions into his art work, he is eventually expelled from school after his teachers become worried for his state of mind, so former freelance adventure writer Benjamin decides the family needs a change.

While searching for a new house, they come across one which is perfect for them; a house far away from the nearest town and set in the middle of a large area of land, but they’re in for a treat when the real estate agent informs them that it’s actually a zoo. Despite the run down state of the zoo, Benjamin decides it’s the challenge the family need and sets about fixing it up in time to open for the summer.

After meeting the team including head zoo keeper Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson), Benjamin realises how much he’s taken on when he learns how much he will have to fork out in order to get the zoo ready in time and when doubts begin to creep in as well as his brother trying to convince him he’s made a mistake, the team learn that he might be giving up.

But Benjamin is determined to prove he can do it and with help from his late wife, he proves that although he has no knowledge of how to run a zoo, he will do his best to provide a fun and stable upbringing for his children as well as bringing the zoo back to life.

Starring Matt Damon, this movie was a fun family watch which I enjoyed.
