Starting with the death of the main character in a freak
accident made me wonder whether I should carry on with this movie as I wasn’t
sure where it would go, but I stuck with it and I’m glad I did.
Carson Phillips is a small town student with big dreams. As
editor of his school newspaper, his ambition is to edit the New Yorker and move
away from his depressive mother and a father who he never sees.
With his passion for writing, Carson does all he can to
encourage the other members of the high school writers club to share his
passion and show off their talent, but as only one fellow student tries to help
him, she can’t help but copy well known writers.
As Carson counts on his college application to come through,
he is informed by the guidance counsellor that in order for him to be
considered he would need to show originality and comes up with the idea of
creating a literary magazine at school - the only problem is that he needs input
from other students to make it work. But when he starts to find out secrets and
turns to blackmail, he may just be on his way to making his dreams come true
when his life is suddenly cut short.
Starring Chris Colfer (from Glee fame) and Rebel Wilson,
this movie showed that it’s good to dream big, but to achieve your dreams you
may need to put a little work in.
An enjoyable watch.
