Ben Affleck is Gavin Banek, a lawyer running late to court
when he crashes into the car of Doyle Gipson (Samuel L Jackson), an insurance
salesman also on his way to court.
Eager to get on his way, Gavin provides
Doyle with a blank cheque before driving off despite Doyle insisting they go
about things the correct way. But when he finally gets to court Gavin discovers
the vital document which seals his case is missing and realises that in the
rush of getting away, he must have given to Doyle.
With no way of tracking Doyle, Gavin begins to panic about
the possible collapse of the case which would destroy his father-in-law’s firm
and send them all to jail, but by chance he runs into Doyle in the street and
asks for his file back. Dejected at losing his own court case which allowed his
wife to take his sons to live away from him, Doyle is in no mood to negotiate
and tells Gavin he threw away the file outside the court.
Sensing how important the file is to Gavin, Doyle makes his
way back to the court to retrieve it and makes plans to hand it over, but not
before Gavin, following the advice of fellow lawyer and former lover Michelle,
instructs a computer hacker to financially bankrupt Doyle and sets out to
destroy him before his own life and reputation falls to pieces.
To be honest this movie was dragged out far too long. I get
the idea of how suspense and intrigue was meant to build up, but it fell flat
making me count down the minutes until the end.
Not a movie I would recommend or watch again.
