Sister Act - review

Whoopi Goldberg is Deloris Van Cartier, a Las Vegas casino singer whose ambition is to be a star. But when she witnesses her gangster boyfriend committing a murder, she is forced to go into hiding and the police put her somewhere no one would think to look for her – a convent.

Initially furious about her new surroundings Deloris – or Sister Mary Clarence as she is re-named – is forced to act like her fellow nuns including living in silence and rising at dawn for prayer - something she struggles with. But when she becomes involved in the choir, she soon realises the potential hidden amongst them and steps back into what she loves more than anything – performing, bringing joy to the choir, the church and the community.

However, when her good turn brings attention to the church, her old boyfriend Vince tracks her down putting not only her own life in danger, but those of her fellow sisters – will god show mercy on Deloris and save her?

Co-starring Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy and Harvey Kietel, I found this comedy to be a good laugh and a great watch.
