The Drop - review

Loner Tom Hardy is a barman working in his cousin’s bar, which is used as a money drop by gangsters. Each night a different bar takes responsibility to take in money which is then passed onto the gangs which run the area.

When Marv’s bar is targeted by armed thieves, both Bob and Marv are caught up in trying to get back the stolen money in order to stay on the right side of the gangs, but as they both get in deeper with the wrong side of the law, it becomes more difficult to know who to trust.

To be perfectly honest I chose to watch this movie as Tom Hardy was in it, there wasn’t really any other reason for my decision, but ultimately I was left confused and disappointed.

With a deep southern drawl, Tom was barely audible at times and every scene seemed devoid of any light meaning I had to squint and listen hard, which isn’t ideal when you’re trying to work out what’s happening.

Starring James Gandolfini, in the last role before his death, I wouldn’t recommend this movie as I found it hard to follow and also lost interest half way through.
