The Nanny Diaries - review

After graduating from college New Jersey girl Annie Braddock (Scarlett Johansson) doesn’t know who she is or what to do with her life, only that she wants to live in the city. With her mum encouraging a career in finance, Annie falls into becoming a nanny after a chance meeting in Central Park and moves into a small room within a New York apartment with her new employer.

But being a nanny isn’t as easy as Annie first thought when she meets Grayer, the child she’ll be looking after and his parents from hell, Mr & Mrs X.

As she struggles to fill the role of mum to Grayer, keep her new job a secret from her mum to avoid her disappointment and her attraction to Harvard Hottie, Annie realises that she needs to take control of her life and start living rather than fill someone else’s role in life.

This film was based on the novel (which was based on real life experiences of former nannies Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus) which detailed how much upper class women rely on nannies to help with their lives and children. I really enjoyed it as I felt it was believable and it made me laugh. It was a really enjoyable watch which I wouldn’t hesitate to watch again. Definitely worth a watch.
