Based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go tells
the story of 3 friends who have grown up together and all attend an English
boarding school. One day they are told by their teacher that they won’t lead
normal lives and that they have been created to become ‘donors’. Throughout
their short lives they will donate vital organs to seriously ill patients until
they ‘complete’ (die) and there are no exceptions.
As the friends grow up & learn to adjust to this
revelation, they begin to mix with other donors who have had limited contact
with the outside world and learn about a deferral which could delay the
donation process. If 2 people can prove
they are in love they can defer donation for a few years, but with a strong
bond between the 3 friends, how can they decide which 2 could apply?
Starring Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan & Andrew
Garfield, I found this film quite strange as I tried to keep up with what was
happening, but I did enjoy it. It was nice to be able to recognise some of the
locations as a few of the scenes were filmed in Weston-super-Mare &
Clevedon (near where I live), but now that I know how the film ends, I wouldn’t
watch it again.
Worth a one off watch.
