Christmas movies - reviews 2

Elf

A family comedy starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, a man who as a child crawled into Santa’s sack and was raised by Santa’s elves in the North Pole.

As he grows up Buddy knows he’s different to all the other elves and after finding out that he has a father in New York, he sets out to find him and learn who he really is. But with his father not knowing he exists Buddy faces a tough time convincing him of who he is and who raised him.

Along the way Buddy gets a job as an elf in a department store where he meets Jovie and as they get to know each other they fall in love and end up helping Santa as the lack of Christmas spirit in New York prevents his sleigh from working and without Santa there is no Christmas.

A heart warming comedy which I’ve heard a lot of good things about, but had never had the chance to watch. I can’t say it’ll be one that I will always want to watch to get me in the Christmas spirit, but I’m glad I can say that I’ve now watched it.

Battle of the bulbs

A festive family comedy about 2 neighbours who compete to win top prize at the annual Christmas decoration competition.

As soon as December begins Bob Wallace (Daniel Stern, Home Alone) enlists his family to help put up the Christmas tree and decorate the house – both inside and out displaying as many decorations and lights as possible.

With his house the brightest on the street Bob is confident the prize is his until an old friend and his family move in across the street and decide to get in on the competition sparking rivalry between the families.

As each house displays a variety of decorations the families go all out to beat each other, but with the young son and daughter striking up a friendship, will their parent’s war ruin it?

I found this movie enjoyable to watch as it got me into the festive spirit in the run up to Christmas.

Annie Claus is coming to town

A charming tale following Santa’s daughter Annie as she takes her first trip away from the North Pole.

With the decision of whether to carry on the family business on her shoulders, Annie spends time getting to know people away from the North Pole when she takes a trip to Los Angeles.

Staying at the Candy Cane motel she makes friends with the owner Lucy, takes a job at a struggling local toy store hoping to help out Ted – the young, good looking shop owner and directs the local Christmas pageant for Lucy’s daughter Mia.

But as she begins to fall for Dean, a local lawyer who seems too good to be true, she has to decide whether or not to return to the North Pole.

I really enjoyed this movie as it was so sweet that it kept you smiling all the way through.

Mistletoe over Manhattan

As Christmas approaches Mrs Claus feels that her husband Santa is losing his Christmas spirit and sets out to find it in New York – a city which holds special memories for them both.

But while she’s there Mrs Claus meets a local policeman who confides in her about his pending divorce and after taking a shine to her, invites her to babysit for his children.

Mrs Claus easily fits in with the family and as she spends time with Joe’s wife Lucy and children Bailey & Travis, she discovers that Joe & Lucy still love each other and resolves to re-connect them in the spirit of Christmas.

This was a really festive heart warming movie which I found enjoyable to watch.
