What makes a family - review

When Janine and Sandy, a lesbian couple, decide to have a child together they know there will be people who frown upon it, but are determined to show that they can be loving parents.

However, when Sandy gets ill and unfortunately passes away, Janine faces a custody battle in order to retain custody of her daughter Heather because in the eyes of the law she is not considered to be Heather’s parent.

With the help of a lawyer Janine prepares to go up against Sandy’s parents who feel Heather would be better off living with them and proves that although she isn’t her biological parent, she is and always will be Heather’s parent.

Based on a true story, I found this movie interesting and couldn’t believe that Florida had such a backward view on gay rights - whether a child is raised by gay or straight parents the most important thing is that the child is loved and cared for.

Starring Brooke Shields and Whoopi Goldberg I would recommend this movie to anyone who feels the way I do about equal rights.
