Suzanne's diary for Nicholas by James Patterson

I am so happy to be able to be able to write this post as the theme of my blog is ‘Books and movies’ but there has been a distinct lack of books in recent posts. This is due to it being quicker to watch a movie than read a book and I haven’t felt the urge to visit the world of written fiction lately, but I seem to have re-discovered my love of books and have no further excuse as I received about 4 books as Christmas presents and then bought another 5 in the sales!

Just as Katie Wilkinson feels everything in her life is falling into place, her partner Matt finishes their relationship leaving her with only a diary to read.

With no idea who wrote the diary, Katie begins to read it and finds herself learning about the life of Suzanne, a busy doctor working in Boston and as she continues to read she realises that Suzanne’s boyfriend is Matt, Katie’s former lover, but she can’t work out why Matt wants her to read about his former relationship.

With her own job as a book editor becoming more pressurising and the discovery that she’s pregnant, Katie is determined to find out why Matt left her and wonders whether the reason could be within the pages of the diary, but she could never imagine what she discovers and wonders whether her relationship with Matt can be re-kindled.

This is the first book of James Patterson’s that I’ve read, but I’ll definitely be reading more as I found myself hooked right from the first page. I have to admit that there was a moment when I had a tear – if you read it you’ll know why – but to me that’s a sign of a good writer.

Definitely worth a read if you enjoy a book which grips you and reaches out to your emotions.
