Haunted by his own disturbed past, Aaron Johnson is a troubled
teen who sets up an online group to encourage outcasts to become friends. But
as they start to tell each other about their lives, the conversations get
darker to the point where William prays on their insecurities and pushes one of
the teens into attempting suicide.
I really didn’t know what to expect from this movie, but I
was intrigued and after watching it for about 10 minutes I realised it wasn’t
going to be one of those films that you enjoy and want to watch again and
again.
The visual way of showing an online chat room was clever – a
corridor of differently named rooms - but it took a while for me to work out
that for the majority of the film the characters only talk to each other online
and don’t actually meet until the final scene of the film.
With scenes of self harm and suicide this film keeps you
hooked but only because you want to see how far the writer will go in exploring
the world of depression – definitely a disturbing watch.
I wouldn’t recommend this film, but it does do the job of
making you remember the dangers of talking to strangers online.
