Sleepless in Seattle - review

After the death of his beloved wife, Sam and his son Jonah move from Chicago to Seattle in an attempt to move on with their lives. But on Christmas Eve Jonah calls a radio talk show to talk about his worries for his dad and to try and find a suitable woman to fall in love with him.

Miles away Annie, a newspaper journalist hears the love cry for help and despite being engaged she falls in love with the idea of meeting Sam. Having confided in her best friend Becky about Sam and her marriage doubts, Becky takes it upon herself to write to Sam as Annie in the hope that they can meet.

While Sam avoids all the letters he receives, Jonah has fun reading through them and finds the one from ‘Annie’. Inspired by the movie ‘An Affair to Remember’ she proposes that she and Sam meet at the top of the Empire State Building in New York and filled with the hope that she is the one for his dad, Jonah decides his dad should meet her, but in the meantime Sam has found a lady to spend time with and has no desire to go meeting strangers.

Determined to meet Annie, along with the help of his friend Jonah travels to New York on his own. But will Annie show up and will Sam discover whether she’s the one for him? You need to watch it to see.

I loved this movie, though the ending left me disappointed as I wanted to know what happens next, but apart from that I found myself wondering if there’s someone right out there for all of us and it’s up to us to put ourselves out there to find them.

This movie has now joined the collection of DVD’s I return to again and again.

One for watching if you love a good love story.
