Bringing Down the House - review

Steve Martin is Peter Anderson, an uptight work obsessed tax attorney who gets a surprise when he meets up with a lady he has been talking to online. Under the impression he has been talking to a TV reporter, he is shocked when he meets Charlene (Queen Latifah), an ex-convict who has escaped from prison and wants Peter to help overturn her conviction.

As Peter juggles to secure a big deal at work with looking after his children and keeping Charlene under control, he realises that with her street talk and own way of doing things, Charlene doesn’t take no for an answer and ends up offering her a place to stay.

While Charlene makes herself at home, she helps look out for Peter’s children Sarah and Georgey, but as Peter learns more about her and why she was in prison, he has no idea what he’s let himself in for.

Co-starring Missy Pyle, Angus T Jones (Two & a half men) and Eugene Levy, Bringing Down the House is a comedy caper which plays to Steve Martin’s strengths as a comedy king – it made me laugh out loud and I really enjoyed it.

Definitely worth a watch.
