The Weatherman - review

Nicolas Cage stars as David Spritz, a weatherman on his local TV station in Chicago who dreams of working on Good Morning America in New York. But despite his TV persona, he gets no respect from viewers and has a number of personal worries which contrast with his seemingly perfect TV career.

His estranged wife is now living with another man, his young daughter has no interest in life, his son, who has just come out of rehab is embarking on a strange relationship with his counsellor and his father is terminally ill.

With his hopes pinned on moving to New York and starting a fresh with his family, David gets the good news he’s been waiting for, but with his father’s health getting worse and his wife confirming she has no intention of retrieving their marriage, David has to decide whether to continue trying to rescue his fading family life or follow his dream career.

This movie was billed as being a comedy, but I can confirm there were no funny parts in it – if anything I would describe it as an attempt to make you wonder whether your life is as bad as you think.

I am a fan of Nicolas Cage and with Michael Caine starring as his father I had high hopes for this movie, but I was left disappointed and slightly depressed.

Not one I would recommend.
