Divorced with a young son, Nic Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) works
for the Academy of Tobacco studies as a lobbyist for cigarette manufacturers.
His job involves informing people of scientific research made into tobacco and
persuading them to have freedom of choice when it comes to deciding whether or
not to smoke. But his job attracts a lot of opposition.
With his young son Joey confused about what his dad does for
a living and craving his attention, Nic invites him on a business trip to New
York where he tries to land a big deal, but while he encourages people to make
their own choices, he struggles with combining his job and trying to be a good
role model for his son.
Surprisingly I really enjoyed watching this movie and
despite the subject of it I didn’t actually see anyone smoking!
It was a great way of showing people that we have a choice
when it comes to making decisions about smoking or alcohol, but when we’re
bombarded with all the negative things connected to them, should we be made to
feel bad if we still choose to use them?
Co-starring Katie Holmes, Maria Bello & William H Macy, I wouldn’t watch
this movie again, but only because once you’ve seen it there’s no need to see
it again.
