The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Charlie is a socially awkward teenager who despite being very intelligent has no idea how to fit in with others.

Filling his time with extra credit homework and reading, Charlie spends most his time alone following the death of a friend. But when he finds the courage to approach fellow students at a high school football game, he is welcomed into the world of drink, drugs and teenage fun.

With Patrick and Sam distracting him from family drama, Charlie begins in his own way to fit in with the cool crowd and discovers what life can be like when you join in.

Written in letters to an anonymous friend, The Perks of being a wallflower is cleverly written to reflect the difficulties that come with growing up, but I was left with unanswered questions at the end.

The debut novel by Stephen Chbosky is a good read, but I learnt more about the story from the internet than what I read in the book.
