To Wong Foo, Thanks for everything! Julie Newmar - review

Vida & Noxeema are 2 fabulous drag queens competing in the Hollywood Drag Queen contest to win a trip to New York City and with so much going for them; they are both declared joint winners.

With first class plane tickets and a trip to look forward to they can’t wait to get going, but as they celebrate their win they come across ‘Boy in a dress’ Chi Chi – a young drag queen still in training who despite congratulating them, is upset to have not made the grade.

While Vida feels sorry for her and offers words of comfort, Noxeema doesn’t have any sympathy and is reluctant to help so is surprised when Vida suggests changing in their plane tickets for a car and taking Chi Chi along for the ride.

Armed with bags full of knowledge, Vida & Noxeema make it their mission to have Chi Chi promoted to full drag queen by the end of the trip, but when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, they are forced to spend the weekend in Snydersville – a small town not known for it’s free thinking and acceptance.

So with a weekend to survive and town to impress, it’s up to the girls to drag the locals into the world of ‘fabulous’.

Despite the strange title (you’ll get it if you watch the movie), I loved this film as I love anything drag, but it was the excellent performances from all 3 stars – Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes & John Leguizamo – which really made it stand out. In full drag for the entire movie, all 3 shared the screen to bring sparkle & fun to the viewers.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar now holds a proud place in my DVD collection where it will definitely be watched again.
