Over
the years Charlie’s family have owned and run a successful shoe factory
producing sensible brown lace ups for men, but Charlie (Joel Edgerton) has
other ideas for his future and moves to London with his fiancée (Jemima
Rooper).
However
when his father dies, Charlie is forced to leave London and take over the
factory and when he learns the company is failing, he needs to come with new
ideas fast.
With
the future of his family’s reputation and the livelihood of his employees on his
shoulders, Charlie has a chance encounter with Lola, a drag queen on a night
out and comes up with an idea which will shake the foundations of the factory.
Helped
out by Lola, Charlie informs the team that while they will still make shoes for
men, they will be making shoes for drag queens – female shoes in a bigger size,
but while his team get used to the idea Charlie & Lola face prejudice from
colleagues and the challenge of getting their ideas to be taken seriously.
Although
I enjoyed this movie, my expectations were higher than what was delivered - an
enjoyable watch, but there wasn’t enough flamboyance for me.
