The Greatest - review

Emotional drama starring Carey Mulligan as Rose, an 18 year old student who having been in love with Bennett Brewer for years can’t believe it when they finally get to spend time together.

While the two of them have admired each other from afar, they have never even had a conversation, but shortly after their first time together, Bennett is tragically killed in a car accident leaving Rose pregnant with his child.

As Bennett’s family struggle with his death, Rose reaches out to them with the news of her pregnancy and the hope of getting to know him better, but she’s not well received.

While Bennett’s mother (Susan Sarandon) spends time at the bedside of the comatose lorry driver also involved in the crash, his brother Ryan retreats into himself and turns to drugs; so it’s up to his father to try and hold the family together while trying to accept that while Bennett’s life has ended, a new one is about to begin.

Co-starring Pierce Brosnan & Aaron Johnson, I didn’t really know whether I would get into this movie, but I found myself being drawn into the tragedy of how one person’s actions and death can lead to everyone around them being affected forever.
