Honeymoon in Vegas - review

Nicolas Cage & Sarah Jessica Parker are a couple in love, but a promise he made to his dying mother has put Jack off the idea of marriage. With Betsy asking for a commitment, Jack decides to go for it and against his mum’s wishes proposes that he & Betsy travel to Las Vegas and get married the next day.

As the couple settle into their hotel, professional poker player Tommy Korman spots Betsy from across the lobby and instantly recognises her as a double for his late wife. With his heart stolen he sets up a poker game and invites Jack to attend before his wedding, but he has a hidden agenda – to win Betsy.

While Jack is borrowing more and more money to win the game, Betsy relaxes by the pool, but as the afternoon wears on she begins to wonder whether Jack has changed his mind about the wedding, so when he finally emerges from the hotel she’s pleased, but not for long.

Jack explains to her that he borrowed too much money from Tommy, but he’s agreed to let it go if Betsy spends the weekend with him. Furious, Betsy refuses to even consider the idea, but with a little persuasion she agrees to meet with Tommy for dinner where he tells her that they’re to spend the weekend in Hawaii alone causing alarm bells to ring for both Betsy & Jack.

As Betsy flies to Hawaii with Tommy, Jack waits for her return, but when he suspects Tommy’s plan all along was to steal her away and marry her for himself, he realises that if he really wants to marry Betsy, he has to fight for her and sets off on a race to win his girl back.

A light-hearted comedy co-starring lots of Elvis Presley impersonators.

This movie was ok to watch, but it was a bit over the top and far-fetched for me – more of a chance for the actors to play around and have fun without taking themselves too seriously.
