Foster - review

Alec and Zooey Morrison are very much in love and both have successful businesses, but there’s one thing they want more than anything – a child.

On a visit to the doctor Zooey picks up a leaflet for foster home Lange and when the couple visit the home, one little boy stands out to them more than others and they are taken by surprise when not long after they return home, he appears on their door step informing them that their application has been fast-tracked and he has been sent to live with them.

Although shocked, Alec and Zooey welcome him into their home and into their lives and begin to spend time as a family, but when Alec’s toy factory hits a hard time, the stress begins to show and the couple drift apart.

Highly intelligent and grown up for his age, Eli takes it upon himself to bring the family back together with the help of a mystery drifter and fellow believer in fairies, Mr Potts.

As the family start to get back on track, Eli helps out with new ideas for the toy factory and before long Alec is back in business just in time for the festive season. With the family prepared to spend Christmas together, Eli invites Mr Potts to spend the evening with them and when everything is finally looking complete, both Alec & Zooey discover the real reason Eli was sent to live with them.

A sweet drama starring Toni Collette – as a very authentic sounding Scot – Ioan Gruffudd and Richard E Grant, this movie was so heart-warming it was easy to watch.

With such a simple storyline and a fantastic debut performance by adorable Maurice Cole, I could watch this movie again and again.
