Joyful Noise - review

Following the death of the church choir master in a small Georgian town, Vi Rose & GG, two strong minded women compete to replace him in order to fulfil their ambition of reaching the national finals.

With Vi Rose’s husband away in the army, she has no choice but to bring up her 2 children alone whilst also holding down a job and when she’s appointed above GG she has her work cut out.

As the choir continue to rehearse their well known songs and prepare for the competition ahead, the arrival of GG’s grandson Randy not only turns the head of Vi Rose’s daughter Olivia, but also helps bring her autistic son Walter out of his shell and convinces the choir to try something new.

Although sceptical at first, when the choir visit the semi finals and see how high the competition is, they decide to go for it resulting in a modern twist on gospel singing as well as bringing the whole community together by the power of music.

Starring both Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, this music filled movie had me smiling and feeling uplifted. I found it to be a great feel-good movie.
