After the sunset - review

Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek are retired jewel thieves.

After stealing their last diamond in a heist which included kidnapping FBI agent Lloyd (Woody Harrelson), they now live their lives together on the isle of Paradise. But Agent Lloyd is not done with them and sets off to nail them as thieves once and for all.

With the knowledge the 3rd and final Napoleon diamond will be on display on a cruise ship docking on the isle for 1 week only, Agent Lloyd is convinced Max won’t let it be within reach without attempting to complete his collection. But as he tempts Max into revealing his plan to steal it, it soon becomes clear that Max isn’t the only one interested in the diamond.

Local gangster Henri Moore also wants the diamond for his own use and recruits Max into helping him figure out how to steal it, but with Lola enjoying retirement and not tempted to re-enter the world of crime they once enjoyed, will Max be persuaded to do one last job and will Agent Lloyd finally get his man?

As a crime caper this movie had a few funny moments – whether intentional or not – but apart from that it wasn’t as good as I had hoped.

With James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan in the driving seat, I hoped a bit of the secret agent would rub off onto the main character, but unfortunately this movie didn’t have the pace, skill or sophistication to carry off an exciting crime thriller.

Disappointing.
