Secret Santa (also known as Off Season) - review

Rory Culkin is Jackson, an orphaned young boy living with his aunt in the hotel where she works. Traumatised by his parents’ recent deaths, he revels in making up stories about guests, but when an elderly man called Sam checks in, Jackson is convinced he’s Santa Claus.

Telling everyone about his theory, no one believes him due to his penchant for make believe, but when Sam realises Jackson needs something to believe in he reveals his secret – he is Santa Claus, but is on vacation.

As Jackson helps Sam with providing presents to children within the hotel, his secret soon grabs the attention of the media and he’s exposed prompting the hotel manager to use the situation for his own good and boost publicity for the struggling hotel.

But when a policeman arrives asking to speak to Sam in relation to fraud, could it be that Jackson was wrong about his new found friend?

I found it strange that this movie was about Christmas, yet set in July. I have a feeling I might have watched it before, but it wasn’t as good as I hoped which is probably why I couldn’t remember much about it.

Not one I’d recommend.
