Backdraft - review

Brothers Dennis and Brian McCaffrey both aim to be fire-fighters just like their dad, but when Brian witnesses his father die in a house fire, the sibling rivalry steps up a notch.

Years later when Brian graduates fire training, he’s placed on the same watch as his brother who happens to be the station chief. But while the two of them don’t particularly get along, Brian is determined to show he too can be as good as their father.

As the two of them work together on a number of suspicious fires, Brian ends up working with the fire inspector Donald Rimgale (Robert De Niro) after getting fed up of living in Dennis’ shadow and discovers that all the recent fires were specifically set to go up when the victims opened doors causing a back draft of oxygen to ignite the fire.

With a specific knowledge needed for this to take place, Brian begins to look inside his former watch suspecting everyone including his own brother, but when he finally learns the truth and finds out his brother is trapped in a burning building, he once again pulls on his uniform to show his worth as a fireman.

Starring Kurt Russell and William Baldwin, this movie was a great watch which had me gripped.
