Paddington - review

A long time ago an English explorer discovered a family of bears in deepest darkest Peru and after teaching them to speak English and eat marmalade; he promises them a home if they were to ever visit England.

Years later with his dream of living in London still active, Paddington Bear leaves his aunt in Peru and makes his way overseas armed with only his uncle’s hat and a suitcase full of marmalade in the hope of finding a home.

As his journey ends and he finds himself waiting at Paddington Train Station, the young bear is surprised at how hard it is to find someone to give him a home, but he’s soon noticed by the Brown family who agree to take him in for the night.

With Mr Brown not keen on Paddington staying with the family, he’s on his best behaviour, but after a few hilarious mishaps, including flooding the bathroom and riding the bath tub down the stairs, he finds himself sleeping in the attic.

Despite the disruptions he brings to their lives, the Brown family they do all they can to help find the explorer who promised Paddington a home, but when he attracts the attention of taxidermist Millicent, Paddington faces a challenge to avoid becoming her latest exhibit.

With an all star cast including Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Nicole Kidman, this charming movie was a sweet tale of how anyone can find a home and a family they can fit into.
