As Alice reaches the end of her teen years, she re-visits the wonderland she first discovered as a child in what she thinks is a dream. With her mother pressuring her to marry a man she has no attraction to, Alice wants an escape, so she follows the white rabbit beckoning for her attention down the rabbit hole where it all began.
Working with the mad hatter & white rabbit Alice helps to end the Red Queens (Helena Bonham Carter) reign over wonderland and discovers that her future and destiny is in her own hands.
As with any film directed by Tim Burton I knew this movie would involve a darker version of the original story and a lot of green screen visual effects. I found that it was definitely worth watching to see the effort that had been put into the movie, but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it. I couldn’t keep track of the story as I was distracted by the many special effects and personally wouldn’t let young children watch it, even though the story was originally written for children.
It’s definitely an impressive film visually and stars a lot of well known actors such as Matt Lucas, Stephen Fry & Barbara Windsor, but I feel it’s too far removed from the childhood favourite tale.
