Copycat - review

After delivering a speech on the behaviour of serial killers, criminal psychologist Helen Hutson (Sigourney Weaver) is nearly killed by a crazed fan. 13 months after her ordeal she is now a reclusive agoraphobic who keeps in touch with the outside world thanks to her assistant and the internet.

Having not stepped outside her apartment since the attack she is reluctant to help when cops MJ (Holly Hunter) & Reuben reach out to her when a series of murders prove difficult to solve. But with her expertise on serial killers and the knowledge that her attacker is behind bars, Helen agrees to become involved.

As they work closely and tirelessly studying the crime scenes and behaviour of the killer, Helen recognises the murders as those committed by serial killers in the past and realises the killer is a copy-cat of previous murders. He is also following a pattern described in one of Helen’s lectures.

In the hope of gaining more information, Helen reaches out to her attacker in jail through video link, but when her assistant is killed and her security is threatened, Helen realises the she is under threat and discovers who the true target is.

With excellent performances from Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter and co-starring Harry Connick Jr, I found watching this movie exciting and had no idea how it would end.

A great psychological thriller which had me gripped the entire movie.

I would certainly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
