Romantic
drama starring Ryan O’Neal & Ali MacGraw as Oliver Barrett & Jenny
Cavilleri, 2 college students who couldn’t appear more opposite.
Oliver is the
latest in a long line of Harvard Graduates who takes pride in his sport of
choice hockey, while Jenny prefers the quiet life of books. But despite the opposition
in their interests, the pair fall in love and after graduating college decide
to marry.
With
Jenny considered working class, Oliver’s father tells him that if the marriage
goes ahead he will no longer consider him a son and he will not benefit
financially from the family, but Oliver knows that Jenny is worth more to him
that money and decides to end his relationship with his father.
As
the couple move into adult life, Oliver begins work in a law firm while Jenny
becomes a teacher. Although the couple are happy with life, they decide to try
for a child in order to complete their family, but as they struggle to conceive
they consult a doctor who delivers the unfortunate news neither of them
expected.
Made
in 1970 I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this film, but following a
recommendation from my Grampa I decided to give it a go and I’m glad I did as I
enjoyed watching an old fashioned Love
Story.
