Amanda Seyfried is Jill, a young woman who after escaping
from a kidnapper spends her days looking over her shoulder. Living with her
sister and taking self defence classes, Jill is constantly aware of those
around her and spends her days searching for the hole she was kept in deep in
the forest.
Supported by her sister, Jill tries to live life normally,
but when she returns from a night shift and finds her sister missing, she’s
convinced her attacker has returned.
As she heads to the police station armed with a file of
other missing girls, Jill begs the detectives to take her seriously, but when
Sergeant Powers explains to new cop Peter Hood that no evidence was ever found
of Jill’s kidnap and she ended up in a psychiatric hospital, he realises why they are
reluctant to believe her.
With no help from the police, Jill decides to take matters
into her own hands and discovers her neighbours saw a van parked outside around
the time Molly went missing. As her investigation gains pace, Sergeant Hood reaches
out to Jill and offers to help, but Jill quickly brushes him off with the fear
she’ll be committed again.
After being reported for carrying a weapon, the police are
soon on Jill’s tail forcing her to think creatively to avoid being caught and
after discovering more clues, she is soon in contact with the man she believes
has Molly and allows him to lead her to where she’s being held.
But as she gets deeper into the forest and the phone signal starts
dying, will Jill rescue her sister in time or are the police right in thinking
it’s all in her head?
Despite having to watch it with subtitles on (the batteries
in the controller died!), this movie was as good as I had hoped and it was
exciting to see Amanda play a role different to rom-coms.
An intense thriller which kept me guessing right until the
end.
