The Calling - review

In the sleepy town of Fort Dundas, alcoholic Detective Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon) doesn’t have much to worry about in terms of crime. But when a local resident is found murdered in her home followed by another body in the area, her skills are called into action along with new police officer Ben Wingate as they suspect a serial killer could be at work.

Asking for more help in the team as the bodies start to pile up all with a distinct signature, Hazel and her fellow officers start to piece together what they can about the victims leading new officer Ben to travel outside of state in order to follow a lead. 

But when Hazel works out what ties them all together, she faces a power bigger than anything she knows in order to prevent what the killer aims to achieve.

Starring Susan Sarandon, Topher Grace and Donald Sutherland, this crime thriller had me gripped from the start, although it did have its slow moments and didn’t leave much to the imagination as both the killer and police are followed therefore taking away any guessing about who the killer is.

The Client - review

When 11 year old Mark Sway and his younger brother Ricky witness a lawyer trying to take his own life whilst hiding out in the woods, Mark does all he can to help him, but when he’s pulled into the car Romey confesses to knowing the whereabouts of a body and threatens to kill him at the same time as himself.

With Mark locked in the car Ricky is too scared to move, but Mark manages to escape the clutches of Romey and leads Ricky to safety, but not before Romey commits suicide in front of them.

Back home in the trailer they share with their mum, Ricky is traumatised by what he saw and is diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder before being taken into hospital.

As Mark tells the police about the death, he leaves out the part of him being in the car and what he was told about a body. But with Romey’s links with the mafia and Roy Foltrigg, a hot shot lawyer (Tommy Lee Jones) determined to crack the case and find the body; Mark decides to arms himself with a lawyer – Reggie Love (Susan Sarandon) – to protect himself and his family when he learns that Foltrigg plans to use him in his bid to bring down the mafia.

Based on the novel of John Grisham, The Client was a tense thriller which had me gripped. 

Introducing the late Brad Renfro in his debut movie, this is one to watch.

Irresistable - review

Susan Sarandon stars as Sophie Hartley, a wife and mother who is convinced her husband’s work colleague Mara is stalking her. 

With the grief of losing her mother still raw, Sophie tries to focus on her art and family, but when things start to go missing and Mara becomes too close for comfort, Sophie is determined to prove she is being targeted.

As she turns stalker herself to prove her point, her family begin to worry about her state of mind to the point where her husband welcomes Mara’s input and help, but with Sophie still convinced she is trying to take over, is Mara really that much of a stranger?

Set in Australia and starring Emily Blunt with an Australian accent, I really wanted to see how this movie would turn out and was satisfied with the ending, but I wouldn’t rush to watch it again.
